Basic problem is that if the tailgate swings hard all the way open against the stops the stops in the hinges can bend slightly, which will then allow the tailgate to open a bit further and therefore making the stop rod liable to pull out. Overall it's a bad design from the factory. WebThe bend is at the bottom just above the concrete it's set into, at maybe a 60° angle. In all honesty, and as a well versed tradesman I suggest just knuckling down and accepting the fact you need to just dig out and replace the post. Once a metal pipe is kinked, straightening it out is worse than leaving it bent.

As long as your LCA has full range without binding you’ll be good. Bending that metal isn’t easy but doable. You’ll probably have to figure out how to bend it enough to get the LCA out first. Around here wrecking yards charge @ $600 for a used one in good shape, which is close to what you would pay to get a new replacement, painted and all...
